I haven't done this myself, but like every year Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Fri, 23 Dec 2011 18:07:58 In Reply to: Re: Saving Suspension, Craig, Fri, 23 Dec 2011 16:12:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I store the car I things better and better. I do like the idea of pulling the fuel pump fuse out until the engine dies to burn as much of the fuel in the injectors as possible. I will make sure to do this next year. Again, whether or not that actually makes a difference, I don't know. All I can say is it does not harm and it will give me more peace of mind knowing not fuel will undergo some sort of chemical decomposition.
The reason we say to fill the tank is to avoid any build of of moisture (water) entering the tank. In a 2-3 year period, I would get rid of the fuel...I wouldn't want to risk burning through an entire tank of fuel that might be bad. Fuel does go sour.
As for Sondeens comment on what his father in law used to say, I've learned about just how bad it is to idle a cold car in the winter...I can't believe I used to do this (thank goodness it wasn't on the Saab). Unless one will drive the car for an extended period of time to warm it up, it is best to leave it! No need to move any fluids around. All that's important is to ensure when the car is driven to get it to operating temp as quickly as possible (by driving it) but until it is there, to drive it ever so gently. And, if you can, use a block heater.
