I don't know about the android phones, but if you buy an iphone, used or not, they'll get ya for the data package which is an additional $15 or $30 depending on plan.

You might be better off getting a more conventional ceill phone, then buy an itouch ipod. The itouch does most things the iphone can do while not needing any type of service contract. However, as someone that was very hesitant on taking the plunge from simple phone to iphone, it is worth every penny. Being able to look up directions, check email and anything else imaginable is great!
