The local tire guy here is good, but has historically been inflexible on price, but last time he was within $25 of Tire Rack including M&B, so that's OK. He's 6 miles away, does good work, mostly treats customers well, but has annoyed me a couple of times, so I'm not in love.
The nearest chain operations aren't much further, but I always feel like I'm getting taken when I call for a price. And my experience with the chain operations is that they always seem to do something wrong or hand me a line of BS. I wouldn't go to Costco. 17 miles, 15 stoplights, traffic, not a member. No value in the place for me.
My wife's 9-5 needs new tires come good weather and I'll probably go to the local guy again unless he's way out of line on price. HOWEVER...
I could get tires from Tire Rack and my indy will mount, balance, and do new stems for much less than the local Tire Rack installer will. And I like him a lot more than the tire guy.
