I've owned 14 Saabs going back to a stroker in the 70's and have been using Saabnet since I believe around '96 or '97 (originally posting as "A Snaab" as I recall). I've always felt that driving a Saab has allowed me to "game the system" so to speak. I paid cash for my cars, did some repair work myself and got to drive some very lovely cars for a small fraction of what most people spent to drive the boring, ho-hum stuff. And if it weren't for Saabnet I don't think it would have been possible. At the very least it wouldn't have been as much fun--this is a fantastic resource and we all owe Scott a debt of gratitude.
But alas things change and people change and I guess somewhere along the line I changed. I figured I would buy another Saab as soon as moved away from the mountains. Yet when I had the chance, for a lot of reasons (the fact Saab had ceased production being one of them) I didn't. And maybe what surprises me the most is how much I like my Jeep (I'm not alone--you can't believe how many former European car owners are turning up on Jeep forums). I have sort of had some vague notion that I would buy a classic Saab as a second car but the truth is I really hate working on cars (or having them worked on) these days, so buying an older car is way down on my list of priorities. So the facts are that I don't own a Saab, haven't owned one for nearly 3 years, and unless they start making new ones at some point, I probably won't be owning a Saab any time in the foreseeable future. You never know what the future may hold and maybe I'll be back, but for now I have no real reason to be here. Owning Saabs has been a great ride and I'll miss it all--especially the people of Saabnet.
