OT: Eliminating and Cleaning Up After Mice in House

Hi guys,
We just purchased a new house, and a month in, realized we have a mouse/mice.
We noticed some droppings in a kitchen drawer...I set traps the next night and immediately caught one.
Closer inspection revealed some more droppings. Now, we just got some new appliances and found more poop under the appliances...and we found a load of poop in the unfinished basement behind the old fridge/washer/dryer were removed. New appliances were installed down there, but I obviously want to clean it up before we really use anything.
I had an exterminator come by, and he gave some recommendations and basically said I could handle it myself. I will:
-put more peanut butter baited traps in various locations (I have mostly snap traps and a few other types)
-Seal potential entry points.
-To clean all the mouse poop in the basement, he said to spray it down with a water/bleach mix and then clean it up.
I'm most concerned with the cleaning. I can catch the mice w. traps if any more exist, and I'm confident in my ability to seal the house. But, I am a little afraid of cleaning the droppings due to concerns of getting sink, especially with the deadly hantavirus. Would it be more wise to have the exterminators handle all the cleanup? I have a 9 month old baby in the house.
thanks for any input/experiences you can share!!
Alex
