The first generation of electric cars came and went over 100 years ago. We went through another generation of them about 40 years ago during the first "green" wave. So today's electric cars are at least a 3rd-generation expression of a century-old idea. In this time they have gone from being almost completely impractical to being marginally practical in a restricted set of circumstances. Impressive!
I don't expect electric cars to be developed within my lifetime to the point that I would consider purchasing one. Hybrids have two drivetrains to maintain, so no thanks there either. (The only real advantage I see to electric cars in the first place is doing away with maintenance on the IC engine. You don't get that advantage with a hybrid.)
I find the alleged environmental benefits of electric cars to be dubious and frankly of no interest to me.
