past that and there is no interest. I worked for a small tech company that was purchased by one of the largest VCs; they dumped us after three years, as they do with four of every five companies that they buy.
Unfortunately, there are very few (if any) private companies/corporations that are still engaged in long-term research such as will be required for a game-changer in battery technology. The new large corporate model is to find a small company that has already developed a marketable technology and buy it vs. developing new technology in house. So far, no one has been able to do this with vehicular batteries, but that does not mean that it can't be done.
In terms of national priorities, the cost of this research @ $120M is about equal to 9.6 hours of the war in Afghanistan (see link) and could have a much better potential outcome.
