But there are coyotes living nearby. I hear them howling sometimes at night. A good sound. They're just trying to make a living. Coyotes don't seem to feed on livestock in our area, but it does happen. But we do have lots of deer, so maybe the coyotes are well fed with venison. The big one I see from time to time sure doesn't look like he's missing many meals. Still, if I had livestock and coyotes were going after them I'd probably be shooting, too.
As for cats, the life expectancy of the average house cat that's let outdoors around here is usually a matter of months. Fox, coyotes, fishers, hawks, owls, eagles, and other predators find house cats (and small dogs) make a nice little meal.
