In the West I don't think there are any restrictions on shooting coyotes - you can shoot them all year round and as many as you wish to.
I was camping in a remote spot one night and shortly after sundown began to hear the signature calling of the coyotes to each other, pretty typical. but then at around 3 am I was awakened by a pack howling in unison - very loud, different howl and maybe 400 hundred yards from where I was camped. Turns out they were celebrating bringing down a good sized deer, it was pretty much stripped to the bone when I checked it out later that morning.
Just something I had never heard before. I'd rather shoot an elk but if I see coyotes attacking a domestic animal the coyote will come out on the short end of the deal.
