Sorry, not trying to debunk it... we probably actually agree. I'm aware that more frequent extreme behaviour is predicted by models (but extreme conditions in isolation also don't necessarily validate a model). I have a scientific background - was mainly pointing out that both "sides" can easily ignore the geological scale of the climatological record. (And both "sides" often cite current weather as evidence.)
Personally - the warming the planet part (while not good imho) bothers me less than the pollution and excess part. The planet has recovered from temperature fluctuations before (though some species have not). Some of the other things we do as a species are pretty short sighted and maybe less corrigible.
