At every sale of the vehicle the standard 6% State Sales Tax is collected on the transaction price. The more times a car changes ownership the more tax dollars are collected. A sale to a family member can be recorded as only $1 regardless of how much money really changes hands.
Personalized plates are an initial $30 premium on top of the standard initial value based calculation. Annual renewal of a personalized plate is a $15 premium over the standard calculation.
VIGGEN was available as a personalized plate last August but not now. Ironically, SAABJ37 was not available in August but now is. I was too cheap to spend the additional $30 last year and still am.
