Economy shipping today sucks (long) Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Thu, 15 May 2014 16:46:42 In Reply to: Amazon moves modern Ecommerce back to the stone age, GFW3pedals [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 15 May 2014 05:42:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently ordered a computer for a friend from TigerDirect.com, a company I've done business with for years. (I'm going to be setting it up for him, so he paid me for the PC and had me order it to be delivered directly to me.) Typically in the past Tiger Direct's standard shipping would arrive within a few days.
I ordered the machine in question on the 10th -- granted it was a Friday evening, with no expectation of being shipped out until the following Monday. So, the PC shipped out on Monday the 12th, according to order status on the web site, though I did not receive the expected email to confirm shipment. Also, the destination was not my address, but someplace in Illinois!
I called customer support and they said that the order first ships from the manufacturer to Tiger's distribution warehouse, and from there it would ship to me and I'd receive a new tracking number. So, the unit was delivered to the warehouse yesterday and has apparently been sitting in a corner since, as there has been no indication at all that the thing has been shipped out. No shipping confirmation either via email or order status on the web site.
On the other hand, a friend ordered a laptop from them on the 13th and they paid about $10 or $12 extra for two-day shipping -- and sure enough it arrived in two days. Meanwhile I have no idea how long the PC I ordered is going to take (days? weeks?), will have to give customer support another call. What a PITA.
I guess the moral of the story these days is that if you want an item to arrive in a reasonable amount of time, forget the Rambler Mentality of shipping the cheapest way and cough up a few extra bucks!
