You can't buy one in Michigan either Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 25 Oct 2014 05:40:43 In Reply to: Re: How do you get a Tesla repaired?, Craig, Fri, 24 Oct 2014 17:58:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The state just rewrote thir previous laws that prevented auto manufacturers from owning Dealerships, and limited sales to facilities which were equipped with Service Departments. This time they added another provision that requires all sales transactions to occur face-to-face. Although I am certain there was a lot of lobbyist and small business influence in these new laws, I also feel they do offer protection to the consumer as well.
I am not currently in the market for a Tesla. A number of things will have to happen first:
- Tesla will have to learn how to make money by producing expensive niche cars,
- They will need to be able to push that knowledge further down the pricing spectrum,
- They will need to develop a model at mainstream pricing,
- They will need to modify their vehicles so that the cars accommodate the standard electric vehicle charging plug without requiring purchase of a ~$1K adapter,
- They will need a somewhat local Service Facility (ironic coming from someone with three Saabs),
- And Elon will need to avoid my prediction that he may someday have a Butner NC mailing address for investor and tax-payer fraud.
I wish them the best. We all know our planet needs the environmental help Tesla's ground breaking technology has inspired. But I feel they are concentrating too many efforts in the wrong direction, and their failure may slow (even reverse) the public acceptance of changes we desperately need.
I am not anti-Tesla, I just disagree strongly with some of their decisions.
