Too late now to try that, and I am not sure it would have worked. The collection of joints dripped this morning after doing dishes, and the diverter valve is now acting up, so I will be working on it again.
The new hose came with a quick disconnect that I might remove depending on origin of the drips. The male portion of this fitting is my main suspect as its female threads looked buggered.
At least it is not spraying water within the under sink cabinet as it was before I started my repair!
