reaching valuation tail 1 Saabers Like This Post! All saabs, maybe the 2011's excluded, are approaching the tail of the depreciation curve due to age. As a result, most "normal" saabs from that era sell for between $2-5k with 150-200k on the clock and various things to repair (either disclosed or undisclosed). Sometimes people (dealers mainly) ask for more, but I'm pretty sure nobody actually pays eg $10k for a 2002 linear 9-5 with normal mileage... Actually, I think the valuation of SAABs is a little better than 5 years ago, due to continued interest and greater scarcity of decent cars. We paid about $6k for a 9-5 with 80k in great shape in 2009. The car is worth about half that now with the wear and tear and miles we put on (doubled)... 7 years later! so that would be like buying a 2011 9-5 today... Even 2007/8 models are still selling for around $6k, but with 120k+ miles...
I think people get more for their cars by selling them on TSN classifieds. I find the prices here are higher than locally, and probably attract much better buyers... many local sellers I talked to said most inquiries came from people with no knowledge of saabs, so was hard to make a sale even at the lower price...
KBB and NADA may not be useful for SAABs given the smaller numbers changing hands these days, and especially in the case of well maintained special examples. I think it pays to get an appraisal of any car that one places a high value to for insurance purposes... eg the <$20k 1986 900s in the recent thread... KBB is going to be irrelevant in valuing that car because there are virtually 0 1986 saabs sold even nationally now. If it gets wrecked, a normal insurance company will treat it like it's worth $2k when obviously it is not...
Not sure how a 9-2X aero with 100k fits into that scale (presumably after a collision, prior exterior condition is hard to ascertain, irrelevant, etc)... Locally 9-2x prices are all over the map. Some are $10k+ (dealers, modded, etc)... some are $2k (non aero, higher miles)... TSN classifieds records might be a great way to demonstrate insurance valuation as you probably get good traffic for unusual models and well maintained examples.
