If it's a 4-door hatch it must be a 9000?
No carburetor in 1987 model of course but if it's been sitting unused for years the entire fuel system will need to be cleaned out. All fluids would need to be changed. I'd pour a little Marvel Mystery Oil down the cylinders and let it sit for a day or two, then see if the engine will turn over by hand. You can then see if it fires up with some starting fluid sprayed into the intake. (I just went through this with a car that was sitting for about a dozen years.) Brakes are going to be a real mess. AC would need to be converted to R134a if not already done and largely rebuilt. Of course battery and tires go without saying. Overall a lot of seals may be dried out and start leaking.
There are plenty of videos on youtube about reviving a car that's been sitting for many years. Hard to say whether it's worth it. If doing the work yourself that gives you a lot more latitude than if paying a mechanic. You won't really know how much needs to be done until you get into it.
