The only thing scary and possibly expensive to me is "some minor work on the transmission" - do you know what this consists of? Without knowing the extent of this, it's hard to say if it will be worth it.
I am in the processing of reviving a 9000 Aero that sat for 5+ years before I had it shipped to me as a "non-runner", so I have some idea of what it might take. Biggest expenses for me so far were replacing the tires and the battery. I now have the car driving and am going through it, redoing most of the work that I have done on my current 9000 Aero over the last nine years - it's easier the second time around, but still a lot of work.
