Glad they stiffened the structure. However, i still think IRS would be an improvement in ride quality & handling, and as a premium or upscale car, i think that's the direction saab needs to go in.
The fixed some hatch rattle for us by bending some metal in the hatch (!!). Needless to sy, i don't much care for that fix, and it seems like a design change is in order. I would speculate the rattle problem is due to body flex making components not fit flush. The car really does rattle more than it should over bad surfaces.
Yes, the bean-counters reign supreme at GM. You should hear stories from a good friend who is a GM mechanic. It seems that their cars are often designed to stay bolted together only as long as the warranty lasts--major engine components are cheap plastic, etc. They manage to sell them off the showroom floor with gee-whiz features and deep discounts, but repeat customers must be satisfied.
I still hope our '97 saab is not out last one. Not to offend anyone, but i think our '97 is better built than a '00 viggen i looked at.
I am concerend that the car manufacturers are astray, so i hope that both of our cars ( '97 saab 900 SET, '97 bmw 328i ) last for a very long time.
