My old Saab ('97 SET) decided to become a U-boat during a major Florida flood in Feb. 1998.

State Farm worket directly with the dealer to have the carpeting removed, the backing replaced, engine and turbo flushed etc. All told, about $5,000 in damages (no body work). Rental insurance picked up most of the tab on the loaner. I only lost my $250 deductible. State Farm worked directly with the Saab dealer on that one.

I later came to understand that State Farm stiffed the dealer for some of the repair bills. I signed a release authorizing them to pay the dealer and the car was OK. Evidently, there was some problem with communication between the adjuster and the dealership. I stayed out of it, and am on good terms with the dealership (leased a '00 Saab, later) and State Farm.

About a year later, I was involved in a minor accident. No damage to my car and minimal damage (less than $500) to the other car. The other driver claimed lifetime back injuries and hired an ambulance chasing lawyer. They threatened to sue for millions, but all they really wanted was the limit on my liability policy. State Farm rolled over and paid over $100,000 (her insurance was State Farm as well), even though they admitted that it was not a very good case. They cited "hazards of litigation", etc. The good news is they have not cancelled my insurance, or even raised my rates!

I've been told by my agent that I am due for a slight rate reduction as Saab Convertibles have been listed as good crash risks.

I have nothing but good things to say about State Farm Insurance Co. My only suggestion to you is that make sure that your body shop is authorized to negotiate directly with State Farm, pay your deductible ans stay out of it.
