The bigger planes (and all jets) use nitrogen for one reason: the gas is more inert than air, and changes pressure less as the tires get cold. When the aircraft tire is at 40,000 feet altitude and minus 40 or 50 degrees F, the pressure drop is less than if they contained air. The tires take enough abuse as it is, with a massive plane dropping down on them, and accelerating them to way over 100 mph in an instant, without also having to deal with being underinflated at that traumatic moment.
The only reason to use N2 in car tires would be in the Arctic, where temperature variations are REALLY extreme.
