I ended up using hand polishing compound. Use a fine grit. Avoid machine polishing, it's really easy to go through the clear coat.
put some compound on a soft cloth and rub with a light circular motion. wipe the compound off and see if the pawprints are gone. don't rub too hard. Once the prints are removed apply a coat of wax.
