Ian, Aaron, expect a healthy caravan going down. A lot of N.E. folk are skipping it & will attend the N.E.S.A. gathering in July in NH; but a fair number are going too. There are Turbo folk in NJ, MD, NC, etc who welcome folks stopping in & some who would join the caravan. Just a matter of how efficient you want to be to get down there.
I live in NY as you both know (30 minutes north of NYC), but I used to live in Orlando. I've made the trip in two days & I've made the trip straight thru. Non stop (well gas & South of the Border, & gas) took 23 hours as I recall. I promised to NEVER do that again. Sucked big time, but you've gotta do it once.
I think there is a Space Shuttle launch a few days prior, so you may want to take a few extra days off to see one live. It's a wow!
The first day is usually get settled in before the hotel runs out of rooms & you get bumped. Not a lot of organized happenings, but a good day to meet some diehards & get an early start on new friendships as there are usually other folks looking for something to do. Say late on the last day to try & find bargains on parts that sellers don't want to haul home.
