hey guys, i'm new to this board but my friend who comes here often said you guys are very helpful. today, i was in kind of a rush to class at my college, ends up i got there later than if i had just cruised normally. i got pulled over for doing 78 in a 55 zone (northern state pkwy for LIers) by a trooper hiding in the bushes over a hill. how many points would i get on my license record for 23 over? btw, i'm insured under my dad's name. i pay half my insurance and my parents pay the other half (it'll change when i work full time in summer) and i don't wanna let them know cuz they're just gonna go off the deep end and they have enough troubles to worry about right now besides my latest screwup. anyway, as long as the premiums don't go up on insurance, then i'll be fine. i asked the trooper about it, he said 23 over is 4 pts. he just said to plead guilty, send in the fine and just take a def.driving course and it'll be as if i never got the ticket and my parents won't know. is this true? how many pts does the course subtract? and if the course doesn't take off all pts, what is the "point threshold" that insurance companies start raising the premium? also, if i plead not guilty and go to court and the guy shows up, could it be potentially worse than if i had just paid the fine in the beginning (like extra fines, etc)? i feel like shit now and could use some advice. thanks alot guys.

ps. how does the defensive course work? i thought it just takes like 10% off the premium. does it take pts off as well? or both?
