Interested in Purchasing a Saab

I have been contemplating buying a Saab for years, but have always talked myself out of it at the last minute based on stories of high maintenance costs. I am once again thinking seriously about it, but I need some advice from the experts...those of you who frequent this board. I would really appreciate the following information or advice.
1. Are Saabs really high maintenance...in other words, is there a lot of expense to keeping them maintained. I have been driving American cars for years, and give them a tune up now and then, and they run fine. What can I expect from a Saab.
2. I am looking at between $6000 - $8000 to spend. That puts me around the 1991-1993 Saabs. I'm sure all of you have your favorites, but are there certain models to avoid. Are there certain models that have more inherent problems than others?
3. How long do Saabs usually last (mileage). I have always worried about cars turning 100,000 miles. Granted, there are American cars. Many of the Saabs I have seen in that price range are over that. How much life is still left in them.
I know I'll have more questions, and hopefully you all will be patient with me. Your answers and recommendations are greatly appreciated. I look forwards to joining the ranks of the Saab owners.
