A buddy of mine had just bought an 85 gti about a year ago. So we decide to take up to Mount Snow VT , (4 hours from home). Now its the middle of july and its hot as sin out. I just couldn't take it anymore,so i say "Does this thing have A/C?" He shoots back a confident "hell yeah"!!. So now he's all gun ho to show me up cause i said "i dunno you just bought the car a week ago you might want to have it checked out before we just throw the A/C on out here in the middle of Mass." He said "no! its okay my A/C works fine". Note it is 1 am on a saturday night/sunday mourning. We turn the rancid smelling A/C on and about 10 seconds later we start smelling rubber burning really bad. So i stop the car. I think it was exit 12 on I-91,pull into a closed gas station, smoke is now pouring out of the grill, turn the car off, open the hood,a big cloud of smoke clears ,you smell rubber burning really strong at this point. Luck has it the A/C compressor seized up and melted all 3 belts. Now we flag down a cop who laughs at our sitiuation. He drives us to a diner about 15 miles away,we call his brother tell him what happened,he says i'll be ther firts thing in the morning,So we eat in this diner, then were like damn, how are we gonna get back to the car? Im like lets just walk-it will kill heaps of time. So we walk all the way back. sleep in the car,his brother shows up at like 3:30pm. I was like what happened to fist thing in the morning? Anyway we now see that the alternqator mount has craked, and its sunday. That means there is nothing open. so we hold the alternator in place by tieing some speaker wire to it,as for belst we bought some panty hose from the gas station and drove it all the way back to brooklyn like so.
