A friend of mine was driving in convoy with another friend back from NYC to Boston in January several years ago. They stop at a service stop, get coffee, whatever. When my friend returns to his car he realizes his keys are locked inside. After watching him trying helplessly to break into his own car a CT State Trooper pulls up and asks what the matter is. (Why do they always do that?) The kindly Trooper jimmys the lock in 30 seconds, my friend gets in and fires the car up. This is a sub zero night and the car has been empty for over half an hour, so everything is freezing. He decides to run the engine while the car warms up, and sits in his friends (warm) car while his heats up. After 10 or 15 minutes, he goes to get in his now toasty car and drive home. Unfortunately, the keys are in the ignition and the doors are locked! Same Trooper watches for a few minutes and then pulls anongside, "what's the the matter,...?"
Same guy, story #2.
Again visiting NYC in deepest winter, this time driving a FORD LTD. Car is parked on a Bronx street throughout a weekend of drunken debauchery. The day to return home arrives and our hero gets in, fires up car, hears groan from front end, realizes he has no power steering. He spends the next three hours stripping the Power steering pump in (again) sub-zero temps, on the side of a Bronx street. (I'm sure that got a few curious looks.) Gets a ride to junkyard, puts ps pump on counter. The guy behind counter says, "Cold day to be looking for an air conditioner..." I don't think you need me to tell you the rest of the story!
There are other stories involving our friend, but to protect his identity I won't present them all at this time.
