I doesn't do to bad-mouth autos; especially ones with an enviable reputation for integrity and for pioneering some terrific advances in automotive safety, but the scoop appears to be that Volvo has good years and bad years.
This is supposed to be one of those bad year for fixups and return trips to the dealership. While the odd return trip can be great for some of us, you don't want it to be a repetitive thing like the fuel-injection problems from the mid-70s Volvos and onward into the early 80s. I have not checked to see what, exactly, is taking new Volvos back to the dealerships these days but apparently they are going back; again and again.
A buddy of mine bought one of the heavy-haulers, an 80 series Volvo car. When I asked him how he liked it the other night, he just grunted. From this I take it (knowing him as well as I do) he's had problems. Ask the people that own Volvos. Then ask Saabers.
And I agree with Scott. The showbox has had a long run. on really wonders why, when you can buy a beautiful, sculpted automobile like the 9-5 wagon (especially the 9-5 wagon) you would buy a shoebox.
