I received this this morning from a friend. She's OK, or as good as she can be given what's happened.

Hi Guys—
I thought I would just send this out, since long distance phone calls seem to be impossible.
I was not in or near the WTC this morning and am fine—just a bit freaked, as I’m sure you are, too!
I was in my office talking w/ a client when one of the planes flew low overhead (we didn’t see it, just heard it). Of course we did’t know what was happening; just that it was very loud! I almost said to him, “....but your shoulder won’t be a problem for long, since we’re about to be taken out by that plane.” but settled for “Oh, My God!” instead.
A few minutes later I ran into my neighbor across the hall who told me that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I went out minutes later to stand on the corner and gawk. It looked unreal! You’ve seen the shots, so I’ll leave it at that. I was speaking with a woman on the street who had just heard from her sister, who works there--- the sister had gone to the other office today. A woman w/ a baby carriage and a small child came around the corner, totally unaware, and said her husband worked there!
After watching for a while, I headed home and passed St Vincent’s hospital (about 5 blocks from my home). They were out in full force, ready for people to be brought in.
I went home and saw the collapse just as you did, on TV. I went back out and there was nothing there but smoke! It doesn’t quite register, yet.
People are milling around everywhere and traffic here, just above the hospital, is totally backed up.
Sounds like there is an awfull lot going on; I hope it is less exciting where you are!
I’ll be staying home the rest of today, thank you.
