I almost smacked into a moose a couple of summers ago... was going about 60mph with my high beams on and all of a sudden i saw EIGHT LONG LEGS in the road! I looked up and realized there were two enormous moose on top of these legs, slammed on my brakes and skidded to a stop about 30 ft away from them. I honked my horn and they wandered away. Glad I had my high beams on, those things are huge. I've since moved away from eastern Maine (where there are tons of moose) into Portland (where it's rare to encounter wildlife on the roadways).
As the article mentions, Saab has been doing the moose tests quite a long time, I wonder if the first generation 9000s are moose-proof though. Another interesting point is that deer whistles are basically useless....
