Hi folks,
I wonder if any of you have ever purchased from Returnbuy.com who also sells items through ebay? A friend of mine has purchased numerous items from them and been very happy so far... i took his advice when looking to purchase some speakers and an amp for my 86 SPG..
Here's what happened, i ordered 3 things, 2 seperate sets of speakers and an amp and the amp works well, as does one set of speakers. Unfortunately, the third set seems to have been misrepresented in the auction. They were listed as being cosmetically perfect and have clear sound(they supposedly test all of their merchandise before listing it on ebay) and also packaged in the original box. (Returnbuy specializes in selling good, but returned items at low prices). When i received this set of speakers, they looked great, although the grilles were damaged (this should have been mentioned in the auction) and the original box was not present. I did not worry about this at first since the speakers themselves looked perfect and i didn't need the grilles anyway. Unfortunately, after installing these speakers, and finally testing them i came to hear that they had serious problems. Both speakers seemed totally blown out. I tested them on multiple amps and the other set of speakers that i bought from them worked fine, as did the amp i purchased.
I even purchased a supplemental warranty for all items. This warranty goes into effect 31 days after purchase date because if the item is damaged in transit, posted on ebay with the wrong info (certainly what happened here) or damaged in shipment they will take care of it themselves. The warranty is provided by a 3rd party after the 31 days.
I purchased this bad item using my Visa check card, which works like a credit card but just deducts money from my checking account. I e-mailed them and explained the situation, being very polite and explaining that i could understand if there was a mix-up and that i would like to purchase more merchandise from them provided that this situation could be resolved. I also mentioned that i did not want my money back, but a working set of speakers that fit the provided auction description, and i also wanted a shipping credit if i had to ship back the items because of thier fault.
After a couple days now i still have not received a reply. I am getting impatient because they do have some negative feedback on ebay but thier positive heavily outweighs it. Some of the feedback that was negative noted that they had problems getting replies from customer service.
In the event that this issue is not resolved, what recourse do i have? Can i contact visa even though i did not use a visa credit card, but rather a visa check card? Ebay's policy states that i can contact them only 30 days after the auction ends (to allow for communication time for settling the dispute) but only after my credit card company denies help.
I dont even know if i can have visa do anything and I sure as hell dont want to wait 30 days... lets hope they reply soon. Any thoughts on this matter anyone? Any similar situatinos?
