My point is simply this: Looks are not everything in a car.
The reason I'm saying this is as follows. I was very recently involved in a car accident (bordering on major and minor in severity) in my 2002 Audi A4 quattro. I had to sell my 1988 Saab 900TC recently because it was costing me waaayyy too much...the Audi is cheaper. Well, the Audi is amazing compared to a 14 year old Saab...and I'm now discovering that the Audi is amazing compared to MOST "normal" consumer cars on the road. I was found not at fault in the accident, and now I have a rental car on the other person's insurance bill. I am now driving a Toyota Solara. Outward appearance is not half-bad. It looks sporty and tight. The interior is decent...but the car SUCKS. I think I enjoyed driving my girlfriend's old Ford Contour more. It doesn't matter how a car looks...the new Z4 is going to be a BMW through and through. I'm sure the car is going to handle wonderfully and the BMW inline 6 has such a sweet sound that the look of the car is hardly going to matter. Besides all that, I think it looks really nice and the old Z3 has outstayed its welcome IMHO. Anyway, that's my 2 cents and I'm sure that nobody is reading anymore :)
