Last Stand of the Classic Saab 4

Any thoughts on when and where the final evolution of the now-legendary Saab 4-cyl engine will appear? Now that it's been replaced in the 9-3 line, it survives only in the 9-5 Linear and Aero.
Will Saab perhaps give it one last horrah in the new 9-3 chassis with the rumored AWD "Viggen replacement" due in '04, borrowing and retuning the 2.3L out of the 9-5 Aero? They've done it before, allowing the bastard V-6 in some versions of the 9-5/NG900 while keeping "old-reliable" around for the über-sport model.
Will the engine bid us its final farewell when the inevitable 9-5 overhaul eventually takes place? It seems only logical that the new 4 from the 9-3SS, or the rumored V6 in development will be the engine of choice at that time.
Or will it defy all the odds and somehow stick around, continuing to be refined?
Personally I'm betting we'll get a super 9-5 aero in a couple years that will be the final manifestation. That would leave the '02 Viggen, in my opinion, as the sportiest expression carrying the classic engine. (I don't consider the 9000/9-5 to be nearly as sporty as the 900/9-3)
Cheers,
'Roo
