the honda (16v civic 4spd) was very quick and a blast to drive ON DRY PAVEMENT. The honda was also great on gas and the parts were cheap, very reliable. But, it was a pain to work on and it felt too light at higher speeds. The subaru was a 4WD DL wagon with a 1.8 and a 5spd with the 4WD switch on the stick itself. It was a great all around car with loads of cargo space, went anywhere i wanted to in the winter and you could drive it with the tail out on snowy roads. But, it was a little thirstier, it had twice as many CV joints and they were always splitting for some reason and it was loud. All subarus make the same exhaust note, just some are louder than others and i had a loud one. The subaru was a bunch easier to work on though, except for the axle nut having to be removed to replace the rotors. They probably have fixed that by now though. I'd get the subaru.
