Thanks for the detailed info, but I doubt if it is accurate, at least for my area (Monroe/ Hwy2/ Stevens Pass) at this time of the year. Around here they apply the deicer in liquid form from spray bars before potential frost or ice, and I can assure you from personal observation (though I did not attempt the taste test!) it is NOT sodium chloride. Maybe the DOT will switch to the mixture the email described when we get hit with a snow storm.
Anyway, I always try to flush my car's body and chassis as quickly as I can after any winter trip. It really is a moot point, since anything they put down is either going to abrade the paint and glass, or corrode the body and chassis. It's only a matter of degree of damage.
