Ariens used to have the reputation as the "best" brand of snow-blower for large units. They are pricey however and their small units don't appear to be different from any of the rest.
I have a 22-inch two-stroke Sears that is probably built by Toro or one of the other name brands. Works fine for the ocassional heavy dump we get here in S.E. Mich on my short sub-division driveway.
Check out the web sites of the major brands for recommendations of what size to buy. They ask for geographical location, length of drive, etc. Then look for the best price (and availability) of units in the size range you want.
