For many you may be right...but that's because many just get what's popular (i.e. accord, camry) without trying anything else out.
When I bought my 9-3 last summer, I tested the theory by actually test driving the most nicely outfitted accord I could find. I don't remember the name, but it was their top end accord w/ v6, sunroof, leather, etc. etc. It priced out higher than a new 9-3SE, and was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the Saab in terms of comfort and quality of interior parts, not to mention performance. Every aspect of that car paled in comparison to the 9-3, and in many respects the Volvo S40 I had just driven (the used S70 and new S60 were vastly superior). On top of that, the honda dealer was rude, and shopping there was like shopping at Wal Mart. You get a more pleasurable and sophisticated experience at a "higher end" dealer.
Perhaps I'm enough of a Saab nut to fail in being objective, but my girlfriend who went along for the rides strongly concurred. She couldn't believe people would spend 25k+ on an accord. Personally, I can't either. If you're gonna waste your cash on an overpriced honda, get an acura.
The sheep are just that, sheep. The masses are too stupid to know what they're missing.
