when I was in the Navy. There have been a number of accidents like that. I used to do the parachute systems and the rule was never remove the saftey pins. I don't know the e-seat system on an F-14 but I do know the navy is big on saftey and they have written procedures for everything. Somebody tried a shorcut and paid big time.
Too bad for the guy and his fam, and your point is well made.
If you're going to mess with something that can potentially kill you, really think it through. If you make your car go faster, add more brakes!
Geez, probably applies to the way we drive sometimes, too. (or ski, rock climb, mountain bike, snowboard, etc......)
