I hear you on this point. My sister is better than some, but I have heard a few really dumb comments through the years. There is a thread at DiscoWeb about a 17 yr old girl who filled the gas tank of her brand new Discovery with water from the garden hose, then added three quarts of oil in the hope of getting to school. She made it a few yards. Myth? Probably, but maybe not....
BTW, base MSRP of an '03 Discovery II S model is US$34,995. For that you do NOT get the 18 inch wheels (which get damaged off-road), the leather interior, the dual sunroofs (yay!!), the nav system or high powered stereo. That's all stuff I would rather not pay for anyway. So what is left is a capable off-road tank for the price of a mid-range Jeep Grand Cherokee. I think it's quite a deal, and I am glad LR offers a "stripper" Disco.
