At my previous work we LOVED when the copy guys would call. If it was a slow day we would transfer the call several times just to see how persistent they were. Boy were they! We told them that we would transfer the call to the copy department and then they would "accidentally" get transferred to various departments like the hole punch department on the 16th floor, staple department, mail room, and so on. Mind you this was a small retail store with five employees and only a single copier. Sure made the time go by!
This also reminds me of all the credit card offers I get. I love to stuff the prepaid application envelope with as much as I can and send it back to the company (usually Citibank). I believe this costs them additional postage and I think it messes with their automatic envelope openers.
Regarding the directory, did it arrive via US mail? Check with the postmaster if this is the case. It is my understanding that any unordered item arriving though the mail is to be considered a gift. Ask for then to prove your order. If they can't, it's a gift (as far as I know, which isn't much). Of course, it's always best to check with an attorney with stuff like this.
