There is a Volvo bulletin 43-0029 for exchanging the transmission fluid by repeatedly pumping out 2Q at a certain line, then adding back 2Q, 8 times for a total of 16Q. Your dealer can probably copy the bulletin for you. This procedure is to cure harsh shifting due to deteriorated fluid, but would be good to perform before the fluid is that bad. Actual fill on the transmission I show as 8Q, but you will not get this much out by pulling the pan or opening a drain if fitted. I show 4.7 hrs to pull the pan and filter, this assumes you have a rack & full shop equipment. I also show different lubricants for AW4 and AW5 transmissions, make sure you know what trans you have and use the right lubricant. I would suggest finding a shop with equipment to exchange the fluid at the cooler lines, this is similar to the 2Q at a time process but pumps in & out continuously until fluid looks new. If this is done every 25-30K miles your transmission should last a long time. If you want to do it yourself and there is a drain plug, you could drain, measure, add back the same amount, run a minute or so, repeat until fluid looks new. I usually use 15-20Q. If there is no drain plug you can achieve the same result by sucking out through the dipstick tube with a small pump.
