like in my 9000CD, there was no optional equipment. Everything was standard...top of the line trim package.
In BMW world, I am sure you already know the first number is the series, the last 2 digits are engine displacement in. IE: 740i is 7 series with a 4.0 or 4.4L engine.
You have to examine the option list on each vehicle because installed options can make the difference. You can have a nicer 525 than 540, just with a smaller engine.
Example, I have a 740iL and in the 7 series you can have:
-LAD (hydraulic self leveling, adjustable rear suspension)
-adjustable dampening front suspension
-lowered sport suspension or standard configuration
-traction control
-sunshade option (fully automated retractable shades for the rear and side windows)
-manual or auto trans
-heated seats
-comfort seats (would automatically inflate and deflate the seat cushion just a small amount to prevent fatigue..yes each cheek goes up and down independantly and it is kind of a mini massage)
-automatic closing trunk
-disc changer
-many, many wheel sizes and designs to pick from
-walnut or light blond wood trim
-reclining rear seats...yes reclining rear seats
-the 740i vs 740iL designates a long wheel base on the L
This is just a partial list. The base packages will of course have leather, alloys, power everything, automatic stuff all over, excellent sound systems, etc. BMWs are really nice cars, there is no way around that.
My point in this drawn out post is there are guys that have an 88 735i that have all of these options while my 93 740iL has just a handfull of the stuff I mentioned above. And my 740 has stuff that guys with the 12 cyl 750 don't have. Don't even ask what a mid 90s 750 highline has in it...you wouldn't believe it.
I reccomend you drive each model engine size to see what works performance wise for you and your wife, then look for one with the options you like.
Cheers
David
