I remember the reviews of the car were pretty good...about 8 seconds to 60, on par or faster than other "next generation" 16 valve cars of the day. (VW GTI 16V, Peugeot 405 Mi16, Acura Integra) Knowing older MB's, the manual transmission would be a bit clunky. But the 190s are tanks...
Anything of that age, get ready for maintenance...shocks, bushings, steering rack, relays, etc. I restored a Peugeot 405 Mi16, and had to take care of most of those...granted my goal was not to make it a beater, but to make it like new. It was one of the most fun things I've done and people always ask me about it. Plus, buying a used "Pug" means starting out by paying next to nothing...Mercedes will be a bit more!
Just remember...think about how much you want to spend, and then expect to spend close to double or more!!!
