I suspect we're only hearing part of the story as Yota does damage control management. So far Lexus is not part of the recall on the throttles, but I suspect that at least the models that are on the same platform as the Camry & Avalon will be involved. Just because they haven't admitted anything doesn't mean there's no problem.
But this is huge. I've seen a report that Yota are claiming there's a design issue and that the pedal assy is now being made a different way. Amazing they figured that out so fast! Sorta makes you wonder what did they know and when did they know it? And if it's a software issue, as Roger suggests, how easy a fix is that? And when did they first figure it out?
The costs on this are going to be astonishing. I don't know what a throttle pedal assembly goes for, but it ain't cheap. Then labor to R&R. Multiplied by X million cars and it's some extremely serious money. Then add in the loss of sales, covering labor while assembly stops, and the loss of consumer faith.
It is Toyota's worst nightmare come true.
