Everyone has VW questions on here right now, so I guess I'll chime in, seeing as how I used to sell them.
I love the Eos. A lot. Great car to drive, probably the most solid convertible I've ever driven, yes Saabs included. But here is what you have to understand about Volkswagen: they try to stuff ten pounds into a five pound bag.
I'll give an example: pull up a picture of an Eos. Take a close look. Where is the antenna? Can't see it? I'll save you some time: its embedded into the trunk lid, which is made out of fiberglass. Ahh, brilliant! BUT, you're not supposed to slam the trunk, but its ok, because you don't have to, because the trunk is self closing! Just let it go, and it will close itself! Even more brilliant, right?
Well, yeah. EXCEPT a self-closing trunk is one more thing to break. And if the ham fisted previous owner didn't know that (in all likelihood they didn't) they've been slamming the trunk all these years and the antennas could break. How much does it cost to fix an antenna on an Eos? If you have to ask...
And the whole car is like that. The fuel pumps and turbos are weak points on them. And the top? Wooo lordy. They told us that while they were developing the car they tested the top the equivalent of putting it up and down ten times a day every day for twelve years. The problem is, it took them 250 years to do that because it broke so often. That car was originally supposed to debut in 1757. Not a lot of people know that.
And 2007 was the first year. Wooo....
I'm not saying don't buy it. But I sure as hell wouldn't.
