It's a pretty harsh climate up here... Probably dtech has nothing to worry about in Colorado, where the climate is drier... but here, they are still dumping salt on the roads (had ice pellets overnight, and we are lucky to be missing some heavy snow to the north)... I wish I could take out the nicer c900 for summer but it is premature!
Many Asian car fans up here are quick to highlight the reliability of those products (which is mostly quite good), and when rust worthiness is pointed out, they say, "oh, that's just the old ones that were problematic"... so I guess I'm quick to notice these things... our inlaws had warranty rust repair done on a ('07?) Civic 2 years after purchase... and the dealer had even installed one of those electronic rust prevention systems from brand new! Many Mazda 3's have weeping tail lights within a couple of years and massive rust patches by year 5 (the sills of those and especially the ford focus rot out insanely fast - most slightly older ones around here have gaping holes in them, like 1"wide x the length of the wheelbase)... Most Hyundais rust pretty quickly also, but they have improved so much in all other respects lately, I was interested to see if that has also, but it doesn't necessarily seem so... There's really no such thing as an old veloster, and the one in question looked brand new except for a stream of rust pouring from the rear wiper.
I will say, that I am a bit unhappy with the rust issue at the front of the rear fenders on the 9-5. I've oil sprayed ours (though only for 2 years and the previous owner did not, and rust had started prior to my ownership)... still the paint popped this winter and I need to do some proper work on it... for a 2004, that's pretty bad - GM cheapened something up since the c900 days... those cars have amazingly tenacious paint!
