Well 1st of all I'm surprised you bought one of those rust prevention systems sounds like it didn't work. I think you make good points about Saabs - I move to Pittsburgh in the 1990 and brought my 1986 9000T and then bought a 1991 Taurus SHO - the 9000T saw far more use on salted roads than the SHO. Four yrs later I was back in Colorado and when I had to work on something under the car - well the SHO bolts would just snap off while the Saabs were intact and reuseable.
But in fact Hyundais have gotten better in a number of areas including steel quality and rust prevention - but they and many other makes are not Saabs, BMWs or Mercedes and as you point out many people buy Hyundais and KIAs and the like and many treat them like disposable appliances - just drive them and don't bother washing the road salt off as advised by the manufacture, so of course in high salt areas you will see some late model cars already being eaten away.
