Sounds like you are very happy with the purchase with no regrets at all. The more reviews I read about this model, the more it seems like you got yourself a gem. As you said, this car will age well and may be enjoyment for years to come. A lot more of a bargain too, compared to the Germans.
It is difficult to find a car with the qualities we all like in a Saab but Jaguar has an equally unique personality in many ways and seems like a lot of driving fun.
Talking about safety again, the Jaguar safety has always been a big question mark in my mind. You just don't hear about it often. The typical perception is German and Swedish cars = exellent safety, Asian cars = poor safety (changing for the better in recent years). Where does Jaguar and British cars in general fall in here, hard to say, I have never seen evidence supporting either side.
Here is one of the few safety-related discussions from a Jag forum http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x308-xj8-xjr-27/x308-safety-53082/. Someone there is claiming that a person was killed in an XJ8 in a 35mph collision (all anecdotal evidence), that the car looks bad in crash test videos, with others countering with British insurance data evidencing low fatality rates.
Do you have any info on how well this model is rust proofed? The similar vintage Benzes (especially) and some BMWs have huge rust problems that are bound to shorten their longevity. Important if you plan to own a car for a long time which is what I prefer.
