Yeah, I read a bunch of reviews after the test drive, and all seemed reasonably positive. Certainly no negatives beyond the expected size and range complaints...
A lot of reviews reference undesirable qualities in the regular 500, but I gotta be honest I never experienced them. Maybe I have abnormally low expectations of tiny cars, but not once did I feel disappointed in the gas powered cars power, handling, delivery, or comfort. I put a lot miles on my rental that included open freeway, traffic, San Francisco city driving and crossing mountain ranges. I thought it was super, top to bottom.
That's what piqued my interest about the 500e (which was largely not available due to demand until recently) and, again, I was not disappointed. The car really delivers - everything mentioned in the Autoblog article is true - it's quieter and faster and doesn't seem to give up any handling. The main compromise is space - the trunk loses a few inches of height along with the rear passenger floor. It's not ideal, but IMHO if you're buying this car to haul cargo or people, you're already making the wrong choice. We have Suburbans, Saabs, and Jaguars for that stuff. A bonafide city car that is quick, quiet, cheap to operate, and easy to park fits us well, and I really think the 500e may be the best expression of those qualities.
