My cold weather experience with our Chevy Volt Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 26 Mar 2014 10:27:05 In Reply to: Re: Cool, Justin VanAbrahams [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 14 Mar 2014 19:50:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In warm weather, the range for battery power on our Volt is 38 miles. During this past winter of "polar vortex" in Chicago, the display has indicated that this dropped to about 30 to 32 miles. The Volt however has an Internal Combustion Engine that it runs when you put the HVAC into "Comfort" mode and the outside temperature is below freezing. Key reasons for this appear to be cabin heat and heating the main batteries up a bit to get more efficiency. In any case, the heater in the Volt was marginal in below zero temps; much preferred to take my SAAB on below zero days.
