yeah it used to be that hondas rusted pretty easily, but they seem to have improved somewhat. Mazda have not. I've seen very recent (like a couple years old max) weeping rust. Mazda owners up here take that as par for the course... even with oil spray they rust (just slower)... but for a 4 year lease, it would be fine. I saw a 1 year old Velocter that was also weeping rust from the hatch latch... what the heck do they use for corrosion protection on some of these brands? Our winter beater 1989 c900 looks better than many 5 year old mazdas!
I will admit, I saw an early Focus last week that did not have all the rocker panels eaten away! It actually looked very clean from a distance. That is a small miracle! probably a summer/sunny day only garage queen. iirc, the early focus was from the same platform (at least) as the Mazda3. Perhaps the same sheet metal material and paint also? Certainly they decay at a comparable rate.
